Frequently asked questions
Is Community really the whole product?
Yes. Mail, calendar, contacts, files, documents, meetings, chat, boards and the wiki are all in the repository, with no limit on users or domains and no feature switched off to sell you back later. What Pro adds is meeting recording, your own branding, organisation-wide security policies and organisation-wide AI agents. Every security feature, including multi-factor authentication and roles, is in Community.
What does the licence allow?
Business Source Licence 1.1: run it in production for your own organisation, with no seat limit, including through an integrator you pay to set it up and support it. What it does not allow is offering it to third parties as a hosted or embedded service, which needs a separate commercial licence. Each released version becomes Apache 2.0 four years after its release, so nothing here is ever locked away for good.
What do I need to run it?
A server with Docker, a domain, and the ability to send on port 25 — which most cloud providers block until you ask. The repository ships a compose file with everything the product needs, and the getting-started guide takes you from a clean checkout to a first login.
When does the hosted service open?
We are not announcing a date. It runs today for our own use, and opening it to customers means committing to support, backups and a response time we would rather promise once than take back. Write to sales@beskos.com if you want to hear when it does.
What will the Pro key cost?
Not announced. When it opens, a key will unlock the Pro features on an installation you already run, and an expired key keeps working for a grace period rather than cutting out the moment it lapses: the key unlocks features, it never holds the product or your data hostage. Write to sales@beskos.com if you want to hear when there is a figure.
Can I take my data whenever I want?
It is already on your own server. Beyond that, mail travels over IMAP, calendars as iCalendar (.ics), contacts as vCard or CSV, and files download from Drive, whole folders as ZIP.
